National Inter Schools Badminton Championships

What is It ?
It is a nationwide competition for all Secondary Schools. Matches will be played under the same rules throughout the country, and winning teams will progress through the rounds to reach a national final which will be organised by BADMINTON England at the National Badminton Centre:

What Does It Involve ?
There will be four Inter-School competitions split by sex and age; Boys KS3 and Girls KS3, Boys KS4 and Girls KS4. Each team will consist of 4 players

The first rounds are played within SSPs in November/December, held over one afternoon. Teams play one another in groups, with the group winners moving into a knock-out. The knock-out winner will proceed to the next round which will be the county final. This will be held the week beginning February 4th with winners going onto the Regional rounds. Regional rounds will be played by April 11th with winners going onto the National Final to be held in late April/May.

All of the SSPs within Essex are taking part in the partnership rounds along with the Havering and Emerson Park SSPs. The competitions start after the Autumn half term.

Training for Teachers and supporting resources.

BADMINTON England offer a number of courses for teachers, coaches and Adults Other Than Teachers (AOTTs), to enable you to deliver fun and progressive badminton activities in schools and junior clubs. Whether you are already teaching badminton or would like some help to get you started, we guarantee that you will be able to learn something from one of the courses within the programme. For more detailed information on the course and resources available click on Badminton Junior Programme Education Courses.

Badminton Junior Helps Award (BJHA)

The Badminton Junior Helper Award (BJHA) is aimed at young people from 13 years upwards. The course is presented as a series of workshops focusing on each aspect and is designed to present the early stages of leadership in a fun yet informative way.

Course length: 6 hours

Course content: team work, leadership, managing a session of activity, organising, managing and planning an event.

The BJHA can be delivered by teachers (supported by training if required) or by BADMINTON England specified tutors. Delivery is supported by a dedicated tutor CD Rom resource with PowerPoint slides, and supported by a student CD Rom with worksheets and record book. If the BJHA course is delivered by teachers, the students will be given a standard White Award. If the course is delivered by a BADMINTON England tutor or a teacher who has attended the Familiarisation Course, the students will be given the advanced Gold Award. Students will also receive either a White or Gold certificate and pin badge.
