Clarification to Service Laws

The BWF just released a guidance to clarify the laws regarding "delay of service". https://corporate.bwfbadminton.com/news-single/2024/12/17/player-update-service-undue-delay This makes it clear that the receiver should not stand with their hand up to delay service and the server should not use the side to side motion before striking the serve. "The Laws of Badminton, Clause 9.1.1, state that neither side shall cause undue delay to the delivery of the service once the server and receiver are ready for the service."

Essex Team Managers for the 2022-23 Season

Quick note on age groups - the Shires League follows the Badminton England age groups (which are based on year of birth); however, because the Shires League runs from September to May, players move up an age group mid-season (i.e. on January 1st 2023). The teams are based on the player's age group at the time of the Shires League finals in April/May 2023. For the 2022-23 Shires League season, this means Under 13s must be born in 2011 or later, Under 15s must be born in 2009 or later, U17s must be born in 2007 or later, and U19s must be born in 2005 or later.
